EASINGTON Colliery extended their lead at the top of the table to four
points when they crushed nearest rivals New Marske.

A close result was expected but in the event, the Colliers ran riot,
scoring seven times without conceding a goal to their hapless
opponents.

There was no hint of a goals avalanche at the halfway stage, however,
when the Seasiders trailed to strikes from Paul Taylor and Barry
Turton.

The turning point came around the hour when three goals flowed in the
space of six minutes. Taylor completed his hat-trick, Turton scored his
second goal of the afternoon and in the late stages, Chris Hall and
Adam McGuiness added to the woes of New Marske.

Easington were not the biggest scorers of the day, however. That honour
went to Windscale who ripped Houghton Town apart to finish with double
figures.

Jordan Lee and Dean Rogers rifled hat-tricks with Laurie Black (2),
Michael Farrer, Graeme Goulding and Dan Rowlands also on target leading
Windscale to an 11-1 victory. Houghton's only reply came in the last
minute from Paul Lamb.

Ashbrooke Belford House were also in scoring mode and they hit Prudhoe
Town for six. Dale Wells, Mark Green, Michael Charlton, Lee Davidson
and Martin Deacon had them five goals up by half time.

Jonathan Stephenson reduced the deficit but Michael Charlton quickly
restored Ashbrooke's five-goals cushion and it wasn't until the 89th
minute that Andrew Davison claimed a second consolation goal for the
Tynesiders.

An early strike by Michael Carter set Darlington Cleveland Bridge up
for victory over Coxhoe Athletic. Anthony McLachlan then twice found
the net to help propel the Bridge into fourth place, equal on points
with Windscale.

Willington just had the edge on Silksworth, winning by the odd goal in
five at the end of a game in which fortunes ebbed and flowed.

Martin Hopps, Graeme Lazenby and Daniel Lee were on the mark for the
hosts with James Hepstonstall and Richard Maughan replying for
Silksworth.

An only goal by Dean Millington proved sufficient for Redcar Athletic
at Boldon CA and Hartlepool also won by the narrowest of margins
defeating Kirkbymoorside with a spectacular 30-yard effort from Carl
Wood.

Jarrow reached the next round of the Durham Challenge Cup when they
defeated Seaham Red Star from the STL Northern League Second Division.

Aaron Croft fired Seaham in front and after Peter Kane levelled, he was
the toast of Jarrow with his late winner.

Wolviston have managed just two wins in the league but they were too
good for Annfield Plain although they needed extra time before winning
5-2.

Callum Hannah (3), Ryan Hebb and Stephen Little were the matchwinners
with Roy Gordon and John Ludlow replying for the Plain.

RYHOPE  CW moved into fourth position in the Wearside League when they went nap at home to Kirkbymoorside.

Richard  Jordan  celebrated his return following a five-week lay-off by scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes.

Damien  Cox  reduced  the  visitors'  arrears but  there  was  no  stopping the Wearsiders  who  ended  5-1  winners with second-half goals  from  David Newby, Martin Metcalfe and James Fairley.

Jarrow  are third on goal difference from Ryhope CW after coming from behind to claim a point at Cleator Moor Celtic.

Glynn  Edwards  and Craig Padley gave the Cumbrians the cushion of  a two-goals lead  and  after Christie Elliott reduced the deficit, Liam Clarke  levelled in
the final minutes.

HOUGHTON  Town  trailed  for  75 minutes in last night's  Durham  Challenge Cup Preliminary  Round  tie  with Ashbrooke Belford House at  Silksworth  but still managed an extra-time 3-1 victory.

It  looked  as if Peter Benson's 10th-minute strike would prove  sufficient for Tommy  Dobbing's team but five minutes from the end of normal time, Chris Curtis equalised.

Early  in  additional  time  David  Keighley fired Houghton  in  front  and the visitors'  place  in the next round was secured with Brad Freeman's spectacular goal five minutes from the end.

Washington  were also involved in an exciting tie with Easington Colliery which was decided by Nick Quinn's winner with virtually the last kick of the game.

Graeme  Liddle gave the Newtowners an early advantage but the Colliers then went in front courtesy of Barry Turton and David Doughty.

Quinn  threw Washington a lifeline with his equalising goal and then became the toast  of  his new team mates as he struck in the last minute to  celebrate his debut following a move from Boldon CA.

Peterlee Town went out to Hartlepool in a seven-goals feast where fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout the game.

Peter  Elliott  and Peter Crawford (pen) had the home side two goals up  by the 22nd minute but gradually Pools came more into the picture.

Bob  Smith reduced the deficit and two goals from David Manson had the visitors in front for the first time.

Craig  McManus  restored parity but Pools scraped home with a late  winner from Stephen Chapman.

Brandon  United  were hit for double figures by Gateshead at  the International Stadium.  Ian  Bogie's  side roared into a seven-goals interval lead  and there was  no  respite for goalkeeper Richard Heineger as the home side romped  to an 11-0 victory.

Nathan  Fisher,  who moved to Gateshead from Chester le Street during the close season,  rifled  four  goals, Brian Wake struck a hat-trick  with  Alex
Francis (2),  Stephen  Baptiste  and Luke Gilbert completing a miserable night  for the Durham side.

Darren  Richardson  struck a low drive to give Bishop Auckland a seventh-minute advantage  but it took two goals in three minutes from Stephen Salvin and Aaron
Wearmouth  just before the end to stave off a spirited performance by Darlington Cleveland Bridge.

Willington  conceded  goals to Darlington's Dan Burn, Paul Grainger  and Jordan Marshall  at The Northern Echo Arena before Carl Thompson claimed a consolation
scoring the best goal of the four with a tremendous 25-yard drive.

Horden  CW went out of the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup at Crook Town for whom Chris  Baxter  and  Andrew  Appleby beat goalkeeper  Grant  Herbert  inside
the opening half hour.

Following  an  uncertain start the Colliers played some good football  but were unable to break down a resolute home defence.

Morpeth  Town, without a win in the STL Northern League Second Division, sprang a  surprise,  defeating table-topping Guisborough Town with goals  from
Matthew Wade and Wyn Fremlin. David Onions replied for the home team with an 88th-minute
penalty.

Consett  are  the  new leaders in the STL Northern League First  Division.
They defeated Billingham Town with second-half goals from Jonjo Dickman, Gavin Barton and Lewis Teasdale.

After  losing  to Billingham Synthonia in the FA Carlsberg Vase at the weekend,
Newcastle  Benfield  returned  to Teesside and gained a measure  of revenge.
A goal after   19 minutes from Scott Fenwick enabled them to maintain the only 100 per cent record in the two divisions.

Top  four sides Bedlington Terriers and Shildon shared the points but it took  a
magnificent  performance  by goalkeeper Kevin Morton, playing his first game
of the season, to keep Terriers in the game.

Jamie  Harwood  fired  Shildon in front before debutant Wayne  Gredziak,
signed this  week  from  Bishop Auckland, restored parity. Thereafter,  Morton
made  a string of outstanding saves as Shildon camped in their opponents' half.

The  shock  result of the night was Dunston UTS's 3-0 defeat at  West
Allotment Celtic  whose  marksmen  were Stephen Buzzeo, Stephen Forster and  debutant
Lee Hamilton.

EASINGTON Colliery will fly the flag for the Wearside League in the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Carlsberg Vase following their exciting victory in a seven-goals thriller at Hebburn Town.

The Colliers romped into a four-goals lead by the 35th minute courtesy of Paul Taylor, with a brace, Barry Turton and Watson but when Gary McCartney rifled a hat-trick, the outcome was wide open.

Easington though held on and enjoyed a double celebration since the two sides immediately below them in the table failed to win.

New Marske are second after conceding a two-goals lead to Darlington Cleveland Bridge whose marksmen were Andrew Cauldwell and Nick Enfield. Daniel Jones and Mark Dawson had the Seasiders in front in the opening half hour.

Annfield Plain, who were temporarily in pole position, are down to third following defeat at Redcar Athletic for whom Jamie Lee and James Kesterton netted.
Jarrow just can't stop scoring goals and they made it 19 in three games to jump into fourth position.

Their latest spree came at Prudhoe Town where Christopher Lunn, with a brace, Chris Elliott, Daryl Donnelly and Shaun Combs all beat goalkeeper Ross Thomas. Gavin Lisle claimed a consolation for the West Tyne team.

Brothers Malcolm and Michael Reay were in charge at Boldon CA for the first time but were unable to steer the South Tynesiders to victory at Stockton Town.

Scott Hine struck a hat-trick with Daniel Bannantyne also on target while Michael Meek (pen) and James Hudson responded for Boldon.

Just when it appeared that the derby between Silksworth and Houghton Town would end goal-less, two goals were scored in the final minutes.

Andrew Place must have thought that his 89th-minute goal would be sufficient for Silksworth but deep into stoppage time, Ross Kennedy equalised with a direct free kick.

Ashbrooke Belford House rallied to claim a point at Wolviston who were in front by the 13th minute thanks to Ryan Head and Callum Hannah.

Peter Benson threw Tommy Dobbing's side a lifeline and 16 minutes from the end Martin Deacon levelled.

John Butler and James Fairley had Ryhope CW comfortably ahead but when Kevin Mulgrew struck for Coxhoe Athletic, an exciting final 10 minutes ensued before the Wearsiders clinched all three points.

Craig Padley and Jack Stainton were Cleator Moor Celtic's matchwinners at Willington while Chris Archer and Mark Ellison netted for Hartlepool at Windscale who twice equalised through skipper Dan Gullen and Dean Rogers.

HOUGHTON Town will be hoping they don't have to visit Jarrow again this season.

They returned to Perth Green on Saturday in the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup and once again were completely overwhelmed.

It wasn't quite so bad at the weekend as it was a week earlier. Then, Houghton were on the receiving end of an eight-goals mauling - the return fixture resulted in a six-goals defeat.
Strangely, it took Jarrow 43 minutes to break the deadlock but from then on it was one-way traffic. Peter Kane (2), Chris Lunn (2), Paul Tyrell and Christie Elliott all beat overworked goalkeeper Craig Chapman.

There were five goals at Silksworth but four of them were for Redcar Athletic.

Shaun Smith gave the Colliers a second-minute lead and it wasn't until the 49th minute that the Seasiders levelled courtesy of James Kesterton.

Billy Millington accepted a lucky bounce and fired Redcar in front before two goals in the last nine minutes from Andy Bell and Jamie Lee ended any hopes Silksworth harboured of making a comeback.

Willington are a much improved side this season and they romped to a 5-1 win at home to Coxhoe Athletic.

Danny Lee, Michael Weston, James Towers (pen), Carl Thompson and Jonathan Staff were on target with Daniel Curry claiming a consolation for Coxhoe.

John Ludlow bagged a first-half brace leading Annfield Plain to victory over Windscale.

The second period was more evenly contested and Laurie Black threw the Cumbrians a lifeline before Paul Gibbs' goal proved pivotal to the outcome.

Rob McDermott and Ryan Rivis gave Kirkbymoorside a two-goals cushion but David Baxter's goal in the 82nd minute for Ashbrooke Belford House opened up the tie.

Rivis though scored again and the game was into stoppage time as Kenny Taylor claimed what was no more than a consolation for the Wearsiders.

Bottom-of-the-table Boldon CA, who have yet to gain a point, almost caused an upset at Hartlepool who only just edged a seven-goals thriller.

Chris Archer, Johnny Bolton and Shaun Atkinson (2) struck for Pools who had Shaun Ross sent off early in the tie.

Michael Meek, Finbar Lynch and Mike Alexander replied for the South Tynesiders who just failed to take the game into extra time.

A Scott Hine hat-trick earned Stockton Town their place in the next round at the expense of Darlington Cleveland Bridge whose only reply came from a Scott Meehan own goal.
A last-minute winner by Callum Hannah ended Prudhoe Town's hopes at home to Wolviston whose other marksmen were David Ryder and Ryan Hebb. Lee Best and David Drinkall had winless Prudhoe ahead at one stage.

Two games were played in the league and Easington Colliery moved into pole position with victory at Cleator Moor Celtic who scored first courtesy of Chris Thornton.

Chris Tarn and Phil Taylor turned the tables before Celtic were reduced to nine men in the space of three minutes.

Craig Corkhill was first to go and goalkeeper Craig Devine followed him when he fouled Taylor who converted the resultant penalty.

John Toomey earned Ryhope CW a point at New Marske who led with Mark Dawson's first-half header.

RYHOPE CW gained revenge for a recent defeat by Windscale when they met for a second time on Wearside, in the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup.

John Butler headed the hosts in front and after Dan McDermott levelled, Stephen Bagley struck a last-minute winner for Martin Swales' team.

A 90th-minute goal by Richard Playforth proved sufficient for Redcar Athletic at Stockton Town but the other three ties produced a surfeit of goals.

Boldon CA went out at Hartlepool whose marksmen were Johnny Bolton, Shaun Atkinson, Chris Archer and Mark Ellison.

New Marske also won by a four-goals margin when they entertained Coxhoe Athletic. Shaun Mackin (2), his brother Michael and Josh Mitchell all beat goalkeeper Tom Orton.

Last week, Annfield Plain toppled Kirkbymoorside from pole position but it was the Yorkshiremen who came out on top following a five-goals thriller.

David Turner converted a penalty and on the stroke of half time Rob McDirmid levelled for the home team.

Turner restored the advantage to Plain only for Martin Cooper to fire in a free kick for the equaliser.

Cooper then had a penalty saved by Stephen Kennedy but atoned four minutes into stoppage time when he drove in the winner.

Three games were played in the League. Ashbrooke Belford House lost 2-1 at Cleator Moor Celtic whose scorers were Chris Thornton and Gavin Evans. Chris Charlton had equalised for the Wearsiders.

Houghton Town, buoyant following their performance in the previous game, suffered an eight-goals rout at Jarrow where Paul Tyrel, with a hat-trick, Chris Lunn (2), Liam Parke, Shaun Coombes and Peter Kane all beat goalkeeper Steve Packer.

Paul Vickers and Callum Hannah netted for Wolviston in a 2-2 draw with Darlington CB whose marksmen were Dean Fuller and Anthony McClelland.

Not  many  sides travel to Cumbria mid-week and return happy but  Houghton  Town
were a jovial lot on their long trek home last night.

Difficulty  in  players  leaving work early often means teams are  weakened  and
Houghton  were  no  exception  but  at the end  of  a  cracking  encounter  they
celebrated a 4-3 victory.

Celtic  were  quickly into their stride, taking a 10th minute lead through  Greg
Stainton.

It  took the visitors until the 31st minute for Shaun Graham to level and  after
Ross  Freeman fired Houghton in front from the spot, the hosts equalised on  the
stroke of half-time as Stainton drove past goalkeeper Carl Chapman.

Immediatley  on  resuming, Freeman restored the advantage to Houghton  only  for
Barry Armfield to restore parity following a free-kick.

With  time  running  out it appeared the teams would share the  points  but  Ian
McPherson  got  ahead to 'keeper Craig Devine to earn the visitors their  fourth
win of the season.

It's  been a topsy-turvey start for Ashbrooke Belford House who look as if  they
are now running into consistent form.

They  produced  a good performance defeating Stockton Town with a  fifth  minute
strike  by  Peter  Benson  who sealed victory with a second goal  in  the  final
minute.

Annfield  Plain extended their lead at the top of the table to three points  but
they were taken to the wire by Jarrow at Derwent Park.

John  Gibbs  and Aaron Robertson gave them the cushion of a two-goals  lead  but
when  Liam  Clark replied, Jarrow exerted pressure in the late stages which  the
Plain survived.

Easington  Colliery  are  second after conceding the last 100 per  cent  record.
Windscale,  who  continue to impress, were worth a point at Welfare  Park  where
they were in front until the 81st minute.

Michael Farrer delivered a clinical finish wide of goalkeeper Dean Caris but the
Colliers  were  saved by Barry Turnton's equally impressive strike from  outside
the penalty area.

Silksworth  fielded  a depleted side at Ryhope CW who romped to a 6-0 win.  Adam
McGuinness  shot  home  past  goalkeeper John McClean and  soon  afterwards  the
visitors defence was again split, leaving John Butler with a simply tap-in.

Before the break Jake Moan made it three and the goals continued to flow in  the
second  period.  Captain Greg Swansbury, Paul Kane and Butler added to the  woes
of Silksworth, who have now conceded 19 times in eight games.

Boldon  CA,  the only side yet to claim a point, have now leaked 33 goals  after
they succumbed to a seven-goals mauling at Coxhoe Athletic, who had managed just
seven goals in their previous seven games.

Indy  Singh, with a brace, Shaun Laverick, James Moohan, Dan Hatton, Phil Butler
and Graeme Richardson all found the net.

Wolviston  defeated out-of-sorts Redcar Athletic, who pre-season were tipped  as
promotion candidates.

Paul  Vickers  and Anthony Brown were on the mark for Wolviston and it  was  not
until the final minute that Jimmy Lee replied.

An  only  goal  by Luke Jenkinson proved sufficient for  Kirkbymoorside  against
Darlington Cleveland Bridge, for whom Michael Carter failed with a penalty.

Shaun  Ross fired Hartlepool ahead but Kristian Kamarra claimed a valuable point
for third-top New Marske.

Scott  Turner  and Michael Weston netted for Willington in their 2-2  draw  with
Prudhoe Town whose marksmen were Lee Best and Brett McGill.
