RYHOPE  CW  are hot on the heels of Wearside League leaders  Easington  Colliery
following last night's narrow victory over third-from-bottom Wolviston.

The  visitors  went  ahead  after  just five  minutes  when  Nathan  Summersgill
latched onto a poor back pass and fired wide of goalkeeper James French.

It  took  the Wearsiders an hour to draw level. Clayton Davis delivered  a  good
cross  and  John  Butler's  powerful header gave  Wolviston  goalkeeper  Michael
Thackeray, who had an outstanding game, no chance.

Ten  minutes later a header by Phil Hall was brilliantly saved by Thackeray  but
Chris Trewick pounced on the rebound to score the winning goal.

Ryhope  are  just  a point adrift of Easington Colliery  who  were  surprisingly
held to a 2-2 draw by Stockton Town at Welfare Park.

Paul  Taylor  tapped in from close range on 19 minutes and on 63  minutes  Jamie
May levelled with a good strike from outside the penalty area.

Two  minutes  later,  an own goal by Peter Baker restored the advantage  to  the
Colliers  but  13  minutes from time, poor defending enabled May  to  score  his
second goal of the night.

New  Marske  remain third after they won at Darlington Cleveland Bridge with  an
83rd-minute goal from Kristian Kamara.

SILKSWORTH  gave  a  good  performance  but were unable  to  halt  New  Marske's
challenge for the championship at Gurney Street on Saturday.

The  Wearsiders  had  chances to open the scoring before Sean Mackin  fired  the
home side ahead with a clinical finish from 10 yards in the 32nd minute.

Steven  Smith's  side  were  comfortable but midway through  the  second  period
conceded a penalty which Paul Millward converted at the second attempt.

Silksworth  remain in the bottom six but there's no stopping Easington  Colliery
at the top of the table.

They  coasted  to victory over Willington and now command a  three-points  lead,
having won 10 and drawn one of their 11 fixtures.

Andy  Hall  and  Paul Taylor quickly had the Colliers ahead and  in  the  second
period,  Taylor  and  Adam McGuinness were on target to take  Easington's  goals
tally to an impressive 40. In addition, they have conceded just four goals.

Ryhope  CW  were without a fixture and remain second with New Marske  third  and
Ashbrooke Belford House fourth.

Tommy  Dobbing's side missed the opportunity to go second when they were held to
a goal-less draw by improving Coxhoe Athletic.

Jarrow's  championship  challenge received a setback at home to Redcar  Athletic
whose  matchwinner  was  Jamie Lee with a brace of goals after Liam  Clarke  had
given Dave Bell's team an advantage which they held for an hour.

In a remarkable game on South Tyneside, Boldon CA erased a four-goals deficit to
share the points with Cleator Moor Celtic.

It  looked all over for the hosts as Barry Armfield (3) and Gavin Edwards struck
but in an amazing finale, Boldon scored four times in five minutes through Shaun
Reay (2), Gary Brook and Gary Evans.

Ben  Johnson, Barry Lindoe and David Turner, with a late penalty, eased Annfield
Plain  to  victory  over Prudhoe Town who replied through Lee  Best  and  Andrew
Clarkson.

Anthony  McLachlan  was  an early marksman for Darlington Cleveland  Bridge  but
Stockton Town took the points with strikes from Fred Woodhouse and Baker.

Luke  Smith, Laurie Black and Dean Rogers (pen) found the net for Windscale  but
Kirkbymoorside,  who  played the entire second half with 10 men, won by the  odd
goal  in  seven  with  Rob McDermott (2), Ryan Rivis  and  Martin  Cooper  their
scorers.

In  the Durham Challenge Cup, Wolviston reached Round Two with an extra-time win
over Hartlepool who twice led through Shaun Atkinson and Stephen Manson.

Ryan Hebb and Liam Jackson took the tie into additional time when the pair again
struck.

WINDSCALE jumped two places into fifth position in the Wearside League with last
night's derby victory at Cleator Moor Celtic.

Dan  Gullen was left with a simple tap-in during first-half stoppage time and in
the  last  minute  player manager Matt Henney set up David Dustin who  beat  two
defenders before rifling home from 18 yards.

WITH most sides on cup duty, only one league fixture went ahead and the outcome
had a bearing on the top of the table.

Ryhope CW faced a difficult challenge at Kirkbymoorside but came through
unscathed when an only goal by Lee McMahon on six minutes earned them three
crucial points.

The Wearsiders moved into second place, level on points with leaders Easington
Colliery who have two games in hand on their nearest rivals.

Easington meanwhile, had little difficulty reaching the second round of the
Monkwearmouth Charity Cup.

A hat-trick by Paul Taylor was the feature of a 4-1 victory at Silksworth. Chris
Hall was the other marksman while Eoin Shannon claimed a consolation for Steven
Smith's team.

Six ties went ahead in the League Cup. After showing improvement in their last
two games, Boldon CA were hopeful of defeating Stockton Town but it was the
visitors who came out on top in a seven-goals thriller.

Joe Hinchley (2) and Scott Hume had them well ahead at the interval but Chris
Robertson and Mark Williams threw CA a lifeline.

James Ward struck at the other end but Robertson netted his seventh goal in two
matches to set up an exciting finale. Boldon pressed relentlessly but the
Teessiders held on for a 4-3 victory.

Hartlepool led through Ian Davies at the break but paid the penalty for failing
to convert numerous chances. Cleator Moor Celtic staged a strong second-half
rally to romp home with goals from Craig Scott (2), Craig Padley and David
Williams.

John Richardson (2) and Danny Lee eased Willington home against Darlington
Cleveland Bridge who led at the interval courtesy of Paul Legg and Andrew
Caldwell.

David Turner (pen) and Shaun Sagar were Annfield Plain's matchwinners at Prudhoe
Town for whom Andrew Clarkson equalised.

Andy Porritt and Billy Millington, with a brace, appeared to book Redcar
Athletic's place in the next round but Wolviston hit back with two strikes from
Kallum Hannah and in a grandstand finish, Redcar just made it.

Ashbrooke Belford House exited at Jarrow who won with a 119th-minute goal from
Peter Kane. Dean Patton (pen) had given the home side the lead which they held
until a minute from the end of normal time when Chris Charlton levelled.

JARROW moved into third place in the Wearside League with a 3-1
victory in front of an above average crowd at Silksworth last night.

The South Tynesiders made a dream start taking the lead through
Anthony Chilton after just four minutes and when Peter Kane made it two after
32 minutes, the home side faced an uphill battle.

They were given a lifeline as Anthony Rogers struck before the interval
but midway through the second period, a second goal by Chilton ended the
home side's hopes.

It was a highly disputed goal awarded when the assistant referee signalled
the ball had crossed the line.

FOR once, leading scorer John Butler didn't score but six of his team-mates
did when Ryhope CW surged into the second round of the Sunderland Shipowners'
Cup with an emphatic victory over Willington on Saturday.

Chris Trewick and Roy Conlon were first-half marksmen when the visitors
had chances to go in level, but it was a different scenario after the break.

Ryhope took control and further goals flowed from Philip Hall, David Newby,
John Toomey and James Fairley.

Leaders Easington Colliery defeated Hartlepool for the second time in four
days - again by a two-goals margin.

Dale Crawford scored direct from a free-kick in the sixth minute and on
the stroke of half-time Steve Manson volleyed in from 25 yards for the
equaliser.

Play ebbed and flowed and it was the Colliers who went through with two
goals from Andy Hall.

Wolviston exited at Cleator Moor Celtic despite scoring first courtesy of
Kallum Hannah.

The Teessiders had David Ryder sent off after 55 minutes and from then on
Celtic took over and romped home with strikes from Darren Johnston, Ben Bateson,
Gary George and Chris Thornton.

Three of the four ties produced 15 goals but just one by Ryan Rivis
was sufficient for Kirkbymoorside against New Marske.

Houghton Town crashed to a six-goals mauling at Boldon CA, who won for only
the first time in 14 games.

Chris Robertson produced the performance of the day, scoring five of his
team's six goals with Mark Williams adding to the woes of Houghton, for whom
Neil Maddison claimed a consolation.

Ashbrooke Belford House moved into second position and although just two
points adrift of Easington Colliery, they have played four games more than the
leaders.

Chris Charlton earned Tommy Dobbing's side a point at Annfield Plain who
led through Roy Gordon.

Despite a lack of goals, Silksworth and Windscale were engaged in
an entertaining game while Dean Patton (2) and Liam Clarke earned Jarrow the
points in their home fixture with Prudhoe Town, who are now bottom.

Scott Hine (2), Ladi Kazeem and Rhys Connelly had Stockton Town four goals
up before Paul Wilson claimed a consolation for Coxhoe Athletic.

Darlington Cleveland Bridge missed the opportunity to go second when they
lost to Redcar Athletic, whose marksman was James Kesterton with a hat-trick.

RYHOPE CW moved into second position, only three points behind Easington
Colliery with last night's victory over one-time leaders Annfield Plain.

James Fairley buried a low right-foot shot into the net from 20 yards and early
in the second period John Butler converted a penalty awarded after he had been
fouled.

Martin Swales' side enjoyed most of the possession and only an outstanding
performance by visiting goalkeeper Stephen Kennedy kept his side in with a
chance.

Easington Colliery quickly bounced back from the disappointment of losing in the
FA Carlsberg Vase at the weekend.

They too won by a 2-0 margin in the local derby with Hartlepool. Barry Turton
gave goalkeeper Mark Bell no chance with a tremendous shot from the edge of the
penalty area and eight minutes later Adam McGuinnes headed through a crowded
goalmouth.

Ashbrooke Belford House are up to third, level on points with Ryhope CW.

Tommy Dobbing's side overcame the loss of Mark Egglestone, who was sent off in
the 50th minute after receiving two yellow cards.

Ashbrooke goalkeeper Brett Wilson saved a second-minute penalty and just before
the interval Michael Charlton opened the scoring with an exquisite lob from long
range.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Ashbrooke were rarely troubled and sealed
victory with two goals in the last 15 minutes from Peter Benson, one from the
penalty spot.

Inconsistent Houghton Town went down 5-1 to Wolviston, who won for only the
third time.

Jamie Owens struck a hat-trick and although Simon Williamson threw the hosts a
lifeline, the Teessiders finished strongly with Ryan Hebb bagging a brace of
goals.

Boldon CA claimed their first point in 13 games and were close to winning all
three against fourth-top Darlington Cleveland Bridge.

Shaun Reay fired the South Tynesiders into an eighth-minute lead which could
have been doubled had Bridge goalkeeper Michael Thraves not saved a penalty by
his opposite number Gary Frater.

The miss proved costly and five minutes from time Danny McLachlan levelled to
deny Boldon the victory which they richly deserved.

Danny Lee was an early marksman for Willington at Hall Lane but Coxhoe Athletic
quickly hit back to finish 4-1 winners courtesy of Philip Bulmer, Paul Cantwell,
Graeme Richardson and Michael Hillary.

There was an amazing game at Kimberley Park where New Marske defeated Prudhoe
Town 7-5.

It looked all over for the Seasiders when Prudhoe romped into a four-goals lead
thanks to Gavin Lisle (2), Brett McGill and Ian Costello.

Although Andrew Dawson and Andrew Rowe reduced the arrears, Prudhoe went in at
the interval 5-2 in front as McGill claimed his second goal of the night.

It was a different scenario in the second period, however, when New Marske
scored on five occasions. Dawson took his personal tally to four with the Mackin
twins Michael and Shaun also finding the net.

DARLINGTON  Cleveland Bridge have made an impressive start to their first season
in the competition and victory at Windscale propelled them into second position.

Nor  should their success in Cumbria be under-rated because Windscale would have

The  Bridge though built up a two-goals interval lead and after conceding a goal

win.

Michael  Carter gave them the advantage on the half-hour, slotting the ball past
goalkeeper James Dolan and four minutes later he converted a penalty.

The  Wearsiders went ahead after just two minutes through Mark Green but it  was
not until the last minute that Lee Andrews made sure of the points.
